Jennifer Rene Psaki (American political advisor) was the 34th White House secretary. She served this role from 2021-2022. A member of the Democratic Party she has previously served in the Obama administration as White House deputy press secretary (2009), White House assistant communications director (2009–2011), the spokesperson of the United States Department of State(2013-2015) and White House communication director (2015–2017). Psaki contributed to CNN's political coverage from 2017 until 2020. Psaki began her professional career with an Iowa Democratic senator, Tom Harkin, and was later elected governor of Iowa. Psaki then was appointed the deputy press secretary for John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign. Psaki was the communications director for Joseph Crowley, a U.S. Representative, and regional press secretary of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee from 2005 until the year 2006. Psaki returned in 2012 to political communication, serving as press secretary for President Obama’s 2012 campaign for reelection. [20] Psaki was appointed as spokesperson for the United States Department of State on February 11, 2013. The appointment at the Department of State fueled speculation that she would replace White House Press Secretary Jay Carney after he left the White House,[21] but, on May 30, 2014 it was announced that Josh Earnest would replace Carney. The White House welcomed her back to the White House in 2015 as the communications director, and she was there until the closing of the Obama presidency.
